Tour Itinerary
Aphrodisias Ancient City
Our day begins with a visit to the ancient city of Aphrodisias, located in the historical Caria region of western Anatolia. The city lies near the modern village of Geyre, approximately 100 km inland from the Aegean coast and 230 km southeast of Izmir.
Named after Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, the city was home to a unique cult image — the Aphrodite of Aphrodisias. In Late Antiquity, during the Byzantine era, the city was renamed Stauropolis. Recognized for its outstanding cultural and historical significance, Aphrodisias was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list in 2017.
After exploring Aphrodisias and its remarkable monuments, we will stop for lunch before continuing our journey.
Pamukkale (Hierapolis)
Following lunch, the tour continues to Pamukkale, where we will visit the ancient city of Hierapolis, built on natural hot springs in classical Phrygia. Now part of the UNESCO World Heritage list, Pamukkale is world-famous for its stunning white travertine terraces and ancient ruins.
The thermal waters of Hierapolis have been used as a spa since the 2nd century BC. The site includes the Tomb of Philip the Apostle and an extensive necropolis filled with sarcophagi. Visitors can also explore the monumental Roman baths, ancient streets, and the well-preserved Roman theater.
Throughout the day, your professional guide will share fascinating insights into the history, culture, and geology of this extraordinary region.
At the end of the tour, transfer back to your hotel or Izmir Airport.
